Scheduled for the Zend PHP Exam
I’ve scheduled my Zend PHP Certification exam appointment at a local testing center for Friday, October 29 at 2:00 PM.
Wish me luck and whatever else I’ll need to pass. :-)

Good luck! Though in all honesty, I will wait for the PHP5 compatible exam. It seems stupid that Zend bought out a PHP4 only exam after PHP5 was released as stable.

I brought this up with Daniel Kushner at PHP|Works and he had some good answers to that comment.
1. It takes many months to produce an exam, so waiting for PHP5 probably would have delayed release a year.
2. PHP4 is going to be the standard production version in a lot of places for quite a while to come.
He also mentioned that there were ideas being tossed around for allowing certified members to 'upgrade' to the PHP 5 cert when it comes out in a couple years.
I don't quite understand the argument in favor of a PHP 5 exam. I'm sure it will exist in a year or two, but it seems like you're arguing one of two things:
1. Zend should not have created the certification program until PHP 5 hits critical mass in the enterprise, displacing PHP 4, or
2. Zend should have released a PHP 5 exam instead of a PHP 4 exam back in July.
Of the two, only the first makes any sense to me at all, and I still don't think it's a good option. The second option seems particularly foolish, because it would make the certification useless for an unknown period of time (while we wait for PHP 5 to reach critical mass, which might be a couple of years). The current certification is viable and useful right now, and it's still going to take a lot of work on Zend's part to make it a success, partly because those of us in the open source community tend to have little faith in certifications (mostly as a result of MCSE). It's already an uphill battle - why make it worse?
I'd be grateful for your feedback after the exam, Ben. I just spent a lot of time and effort editing the exam (after some community feedback), and I think the newest version was just published.
I think Zend did the right thing in focusing at PHP4. There will probably be some discount for ZCE's when the PHP5 version comes out. So we can easily upgrade.
Good Luck Ben!
I, too, agree with the decision to stick with PHP 4 for this exam, and I'll be sure to provide some feedback to you, Chris, after I take it.
Just wanted to say Good luck though I'm sure you won't need it.
Good luck. I think you'll find the test sobering and to the core of what it takes to be a professional and 'hire-able'.
How'd it go?
Congrats on passing the exam. Just so you know, when you get you certificate in the mail from zend you will get a URL to directly link the ZCE image to.
